Not much has changed in the 25+ years that we've had August Whim. Lots of paint, lots of scrubbing, a new dock, and plenty of love. The cabin remains the ideal summer vacation spot for fuss-free family fun!

Put on your flip-flops, and grab a towel: your summer vacation is about to begin.  Here is what you should bring:

> Your own bedding (or sleeping bags) and favourite blanket and pillows.

> Your own towels (for beach, bath, and kitchen too).

> Summer clothes, swim gear, and a bit of warmer clothing for cool evenings, or spring / autumn

> Groceries; although you can certainly get everything you need at the supermarkets in Christina Lake or Grand Forks, we highly recommend bringing the staples from your own kitchen (condiments, ground coffee, tea bags, favourite BBQ sauce, herbs & spices).

> Good old-fashioned fun (board games, card games, books, sport and beach toys, scuba stuff, hiking boots, etc).

> Bicycle, canoe, kayak, boat and other "big" toys.

> PFDs / lifejackets, water wings, bike helmets, and any other safety gear suitable for your planned activities.

There is plenty to see and discover at Christina Lake and in the neighbouring towns of Grand Forks, Castelgar, Trail, Rossland, and Nelson – each within day-tripping range.

The Boundary Country is rich with outdoor adventure, family fun, and historical interest.

We've done our best to list all the things to see and do in and around Christina Lake and Grand Forks but we know you will discover so much more!

ABOUT THE COTTAGE

Bedrooms – Two, each with a queen sized bed. The cabin comfortably sleeps four people, with room for two more on couches. When the grandkids visit, they are known to pitch a tent in the rumpus room or on the dock for almost-authentic "camping".

Bathroom – One. Equipped with vanity, commode, bathtub and shower. Please note, we are on a SEPTIC system. Only flush toilet paper; all other refuse to be deposited in the wastepaper can provided.

Kitchen – Standard refrigerator, stove, microwave provided. You will also find a coffee maker, kettle, teapot, and basic cooking and meal utensils, pots and pans. There are plenty of glasses, mugs, plates and bowls as well. Please bring your own tea towels and dishcloths, and all food items. You will find a gas barbecue (and propane) on the deck.

Unplugged –  A basic t.v. and DVD player (and a few movies) are provided, but August Whim is largely "unplugged". There is no cable t.v. or internet. Please bring your own preferred DVDs, board or card games, books, cell phone, etc., if you wish.

On the Dock – You can easily moor a boat at the dock; there is a public boat launch at Texas Point (free), and private launches at Christina Lake Marina and Schulli Resort. Kayaks can be rented at Wildways.

Waterfront – There is great swimming off the end of the dock, and in August (when the water level is low) there is a small sandy area at the shoreline. Please supervise children closely!

Maximum Capacity – Due to the size of the cabin and the nature of septic facilities, the maximum overnight capacity is SIX people; if you plan to have visiting daytime guests, please let your hosts know.
